Lismore Ladies Golf Notes
We had beautiful weather and a great turnout for our Captain’s Drive on Sunday last. President Hannah Lucas oversaw both our captains who had the sun in their eyes teeing up for their drive off. Lady Captain Nora O Sullivan put Captain Seamus Beecher under pressure with her fabulous shot, but Seamus was up to the mark and he also hit a cracker to set the standard for the coming season. A fun 3ball champagne scramble followed and it was no surprise to see both captains on the winning team along with vice captain Dermot O’Leary.
It was very encouraging to some of the ladies present to see that Nora could still play that well having reached the half century mark, and of course look that well too!
Congrats Nora from all the ladies, we hope you enjoy your year and I’m sure we will celebrate on a few more occasions during the season..

This week we managed to complete our last comp for this year, with the upcoming ones running through to 2012. JoJo Tobin finished a good year off by taking the spoils ahead of Amanda Power.
Things were very busy off the course with the club quiz night going ahead on Fri night, and a great turnout had a most enjoyable contest with a tie-break to finish off the night. Thanks to all who supported the fundraiser and we look forward to the next one coming up in spring.
Our Ladies Christmas Party and Presentation of all outstanding Prizes also went ahead on Sunday evening. Here with the hard work of Lady Captain Nora and her Social committee all the ladies enjoyed some mulled wine, festive fare along with plenty of festive fun. Well done to all concerned on a well organised event that has us all feeling the Christmas Spirit today! Thanks to all who brought toys for the V de P appeal on the night.

Lismore Ladies Golf Notes
The Ladies AGM went ahead last week and after the large turnout was welcomed by outgoing Lady Captain Mag Morrissey, Mag went on to thank everyone in the club who helped make her year as captain of the ship, “plain sailing”. Mag then proposed Nora O Sullivan as Lady Captain for 2012 which Nora accepted graciously. We all wish Nora the best of luck for her year in office and we have no doubt she will be another top class Captain in the coming season. Nora then proposed Joan Cahillane as Vice Captain, Joan who just finished her stint as treasurer accepted the position and I’m sure will be a great support to Nora in the coming months. The ever efficient Katherine Moynihan continues as Secretary for another year with the following Committee elected.
Amanda Power, Sheila Denn, JoJo Tobin, Siobhan Moroney, Gertie Murphy, Esther Hornibrook, Betty Daly, Helen Leddy, Laoise Ní Chonchubhair.
It was decided that our ladies alternate day for the coming year will be changed from Sunday to Saturdays. We wish all the incoming officers and committee the best for their term in office.
On the “field of play” Helen Farrow is showing her true potential playing great golf in her first year in competition, Joan Cahillane with fewer shots to spare enjoyed her comeback!, and it is great to see Catherine Neville back in the prizes again.

Nora O’Sullivan takes Golfer of the Year in Style.
Our last GOY competition was held last week and there were only a few points separating the top three of Anne Bennett, Nora O’Sullivan and Katherine Moynihan with the Ballyin Cup and the last few points up for the taking. On the day Nora had no difficulty in seeing off all opposition bring home a fabulous 65nett (giving her a total of 52 pts) to add the Golfer of the year title to her earlier claimed Lady Captains prize. Nora also equalled her brother’s feat as Pa also took the GOY title along with the President's prize earlier in the year. Katherine Moynihan did herself justice on the day with a creditable 72 to take 2nd place. But the honours this week are totally Nora’s with this win capping a fine year’s golf for her and she will look forward to starting off next season and her Captaincy on her new handicap of 15 I’m sure. Well done from us all, Vice Captain.

Ladies Singles Final.
This week saw the last of our club championships take place with Nicky Walsh and JoJo Tobin winning the mixed final in some style on Monday. JoJo took to the course again Tuesday in her first Ladies Singles final against the experienced and evergreen Sheila Denn. JoJo had won earlier games on the 19th with Sheila winning the semi-final on the 21st so a tough encounter was expected. Both ladies found the going tough and after 9 holes were on level terms. JoJo managed to go three holes up only to have the determined Sheila come straight back to level on the 17th. Both Ladies had missed chances to finish the game and so it was on the 18th and another ladies singles game went to the 19th. Here it was decided when Sheila’s ball stayed on the edge and JoJo’s, much to her relief, fell in. Congrats to both ladies on reaching the final and putting up such a great battle and well done the victor.

Lismore Ladies Golf Notes
Last weekend saw a number of our esteemed Ladies heading off to Killarney for a weekend of golf and Craic. We stopped in Macroom on Saturday for some refreshments before taking to the hills of the Macroom Golf course for some challenging and very enjoyable golf under what turned out to be gloriously sunny skies. Straight off to Castlerosse Hotel for all, for a couple of minutes to put the feet up and a quick change (well a couple of ladies were not exactly quick!) and we were served up a delicious 4 course meal along with a glass of wine or 2 to satisfy everyone’s appetite. Our Lady Captain Mag then presented the prizes to all present with the winning team of Patricia Lonergan, Anne McCarthy and Nora O’Leary deserving congratulations for their fabulous score of 61pts in tough conditions.
After a scrumptious Birthday Cake for our Lady Captain was devoured (thanks to our resident cake Connoisseur Nora) the Ladies then adjourned to more comfortable surroundings and proceeded to entertain for the rest of the night. Jokes, singing, dancing and laughter competitions ensued with no doubt that Lismore Golf club finished on top in all events.
Then it was off to the Leaba in the hope the forecast would be incorrect on its verdict for Sun. It looked dismal at breakfast time, but by the time the last 2 (the same 2, I might add) had turned up things were starting to brighten outside and out Lady Captain wisely decided to meet at 11.45 to decide on playing golf. That recovery hour was as vital to the ladies as the weather and everyone present headed out to play 9 holes and were once again rewarded with sunshine on their travels.
Back at the hotel for the final briefing and this time it was the inform Patricia Lonergan , Betty Daly and JoJo Tobin who finisheD ahead of the posse, (It pays to go to bed early ladies). Prizes for all and some much needed socks and golf balls etc were gratefully received before everyone headed off well satisified with a marvellous weekend of sport, friendship and entertainment.
I know all the Ladies want me to thank everyone who helped out in organising the weekend, Nora, Amanda and especially our Lady Captain Mag who put together a weekend thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thanks Ladies and we look forward to more of the same next year Nora..

Lismore Ladies Golf Notes
It's down to the semi-final stage of the club Singles and Foursomes with some very exciting games going down to the 20th hole to decide the victors. In the club singles, Alice Henley defeated Mag Morrissey on the 20th and will now play JoJo Tobin who staged a comeback to level on the 18th and take the semi spot on from Kay Condon also on the 20th, Nora O'Sullivan had a similar battle with Katherine Moynihan only clinching her chance to take on Sheila Denn in the Semi on the 20th hole. Sheila Denn having defeated Mary Beecher in her quarter final.
In the foursomes Mag and Sheila O Leary play K Moynihan + Betty Daly in one Semi with with P Bolger McCarthy +Alice Henley playing N O’Sullivan + B Burke in the other one.
Alice and Nora in two semis look to be the ladies on form at the moment, but Katherine Moynihan thrives in this environment and with Betty Daly hitting top form this week with a super 65, it looks like we will have some very interesting deciders in the coming weeks.

Wednesday last was our Open Day and the tough Scotch 4somes format brought out the best in a few entries. Nora O’Sullivan and Katherine Moynihan both in good form at the moment were a few shots clear of the posse for a well deserved win. Fortunately they both showed the same form in their 4somes match v the Gold Coast on Sun Morning.

Lismore Ladies Golf Notes
JoJo , Sheila and Mary T.J came in with the winning scores on the wed before Lady Captain's Day and all 3 were probably hoping it would be a rerun for the Sunday, But sure don’t we all know golf is never that straightforward.
Lady Captains Day
I’m not sure if the Infant of Prague was involved this time but Mag was definitely blessed on Sunday with some Glorious weather, which made her day all the more special and enjoyable for all. The clubhouse was buzzing from early morning with this popular ladies prize being eagerly sought after with the anticipation of a fine day’s golf.
There were some very interesting happenings out on the course, with a never seen before shot at the first tee box and a couple of visor smackers further afield! Even some of the eventual prize-winners had some adventures along their way with overall winner Nora hitting the bunker in the first hole, (it being beach weather of course) staying put for a few shots to start her card off with a 9, an out of bounds added an 8 to that soon after so you can imagine just how well she must have played after that to finish ahead as she did. Brid Henry always thereabouts in any major was only beaten on the back 9 to take 2nd, with Anna Murphy who has not been out on the course much lately delighted with her third spot also decided on the back 9. Amanda Power is well pleased heading off for her holidays with the Gross prize in her suitcase with Marion Moore 4th and Patricia Lonergan 5th only a couple of putts behind.
Lady Captain Mag was delighted to present her prizes to all her winners but especially to her Vice Captain, friend and right hand woman Nora, who got the loudest cheer of the night and that was not when she received her bucket and spade! Mag thanked everyone who helped make her day such a fabulous success, Presented her prizes to all winners, plus visitors and putting comp and raffle prizes. Approx €350 was raised for NRCBI on the day. Music and dancing then ensued for all present to end a most enjoyable day.

East Cork Oil Sponsored Spring League goes down to the wire.
The Final round of the East Cork Oil Sponsored Spring League proved to be one of the closest most exciting one in quite a while culminating in just 1 point separating the top two teams and the top two individual winners.
Catherine Neville stole the show this week with a fabulous 43 pts which gave her first place and this added to Betty Joyce who took Gross with 38pts and Gerty Murphy, 36pts ensured that her team captained by Sheila O’Leary took 2nd place overall.
Mary T.J. Murphy took the No 2 prize this week with a superb 40pts, great to see Mary well able to cope with her new handicap. Betty Daly once again came up trumps with 39pts to take 4th spot, are we seeing consistency here Betty? Pride of place this week must however go to Our Lady Captain Mag Morrissey who though slightly under the weather came through with 40pts for her team and with Bernie Burke 33pts added to Captain fantastic Joan Cahillane’s 37pts this team took the honours in the East Cork Oil Spring League for 2011.
Nora O’Sullivan’s team held on to third place with Nora (33pts), Hannah Lucas (37pts) and Nora O’Leary (33pts). Katherine Moynihan’s team down one through injury finished up joint 4th with JoJo Tobin’s team who were also struck with injury, a very credible finish for both teams.
In the individual competition Joan Cahillane pipped Nora O’Sullivan by just one point to finish on top at the right time. Well done to everyone who took part and made the effort for their team every week and especially our winners who will be presented with prizes in the near future. Thanks again to our Sponsors East Cork Oil who come up trumps every year and provide us with a super start to our years golf.

Lismore Ladies Golf Notes
East Cork Sponsored Spring League
This years East Cork Oil Sponsored Spring League has been the most enjoyable so far with great weather and some fabulous golf played by a variety of Ladies at various stages. This week has been no different with sunshine and smiles all round as great scores were returned with ease.
Betty Joyce playing off 13 brought in an amazing 42pts to set the standard and along with Captain Sheila O’Leary (36pts) ensures her team remained in second place going into the last round. Amanda Power shows signs of another good year to come playing to last years form bringing in 40pts.The ever consistent Joan Cahillane equalled Amanda’s score to take Gross and her teammates, Mag (33pts) and Bernie Burke (35pts) came through once again to put their team in the lead for the first time. Though of no great benefit with her team out of the running at this stage Betty Daly will be delighted with her 39pts having missed out in the early stages of the league. What can we say of Katherine Moynihan? Once again in the prizes with 38pts her team despite only having two scores in this week are 4th only 4 points behind with Katherine in third place in the individual placings. Nora O’Sullivan’s team have moved into third place with Nora (36pts), Hannah Lucas (35pts) and Nora O’Leary (33pts) and perhaps it will be this consistency that wins through next week?. Though JoJo Tobin is out of action her team hold on to 5th place and as they say where there’s life there’s hope ladies.
It certainly looks like this year's East Cork Oil Sponsored Spring League is going to have the Grand Finale that it deserves, Special thanks to our Sponsors for allowing us the opportunity to partake in such an exciting and competitive event and good luck to all in your final attempt at glory.

East Cork Sponsored Spring League
Some marvellous weather has brought forth some marvellous golf with some great scores changing the leader board in our last week of 12 holes. Alice Henley stole the show with a superb 31 points, with Catherine Neville close behind on 30. Catherine’s 30 along with Betty Joyce’s 24 and team captain Sheila O’Leary’s 26 have ensured a giant leap of 10 points for this team which puts them 1 point ahead of Katherine Moynihan’s team. Nora O’Sullivan remains in splendid form and her 28 points plus Hannah Lucas’s 25 and Siobhan Moroney’s 22, keeps her team in 4th position. Joan Cahillane, in the prizes again with 27 points is also leading the way for her team and joined with Bernie Burke’s 24 and Lady Captain Mag Morrissey’s 23 points moves up one into third place. JoJo Tobin’s team have fallen back to 5th place this week and will be hard pressed to get back in the running with two rounds to play. Next week is our first 18 holes round and with only one go at it the pressure will be on the top teams to keep up the great form they have shown so far.

Lismore Ladies Golf Notes
The first round of the Spring league saw many ladies coming out of hibernation and it was great to see the course buzzing once again. At the moment we are working off the weather forecast and the saying “make hay while the sun shines” was never more relevant. Anne Bennett’s superb win puts her team in front at this early with Orla Scanlon’s second place helping her team, captained by Katherine Moynihan, to the no 2 spot. Captain Nora O’Sullivan and team-mate Siobhan Moroney had enough points to put their team in third place stage but I’m sure now that the cobwebs are blown away we will have plenty of serious competition in the coming weeks.

In the other semi last year's winners Anthony O’Rourke and JoJo Tobin failed to finish off their game having been dormey 3 up and the experienced Jimmy and Esther Hornibrook levelled on the 18th and proceeded to join their sister in the final winning the 19th hole.
